FROM THE BUD

TO THE BOTTLE

Vincent Arroyo purchased and transformed 23 acres of the Greenwood Ranch in 1974 and initially produced a few hundred cases of wine and sold the rest of the tonnage to various Napa wineries. Over the years he grew it to what it is today – over 8,000 cases and seven varietals. Now Vincent Arroyo Winery is under the tutelage of the next generation in the family, allowing Vince to do it once again (Otra Vez).

Vincent’s winemaking style is the embodiment of his philosophy about his land. Take what you have, and do the best you can with it. The grapes are grown in two prime estate vineyards – each with its own defining character – one grows in the rich, heavy soils of the valley floor; the other thrives ini a hillside vineyard called Rattlesnake Acres.

The wine is hand-crafted, starting from before the grapes are harvested. Vince decided how the grapes from each vineyard will be vinified, when they will be picked, how they will be crushed, what fermentation regimes they will undergo. Finally, to maximize the optimum flavors of the wine during the barrel-aging process, he determines the percentage of French oak or American oak, and new or old barrels.
